Our August 6 speaker is
J.D. Rhoades, author of thirteen novels and various short stories. He will talk about the
craft of writing.

His first novel, The
Devil’s Right Hand, released in 2005, was nominated for the prestigious
Shamus Award for Best First Novel. Good
Day in Hell, his second novel featuring North Carolina bail bondsman Jack
Keller, was released in March 2006. Safe
and Sound, July 2007, also features Jack Keller. Breaking Cover, July 2008, is a standalone thriller, and was
followed by Broken Shield, and Devils And Dust.

His newest release, Won’t
Back Down, is the sixth Jack Keller book. Keller’s violent past is very
much with him, despite his efforts to leave it behind. He’s back in rural North
Carolina, looking for steady work, and trying to establish a relationship with
Francis, the son he never knew.
Keller’s never been
one to back down, and once again, he’ll be forced to pick up the gun to defend
the people he loves. This time, however, he won’t be alone, and Jack will find
out that the debts of his past may never be paid in full.

J.D. Rhoades was born and raised in North Carolina. He has
worked as a radio news reporter, club DJ, television cameraman, ad salesman,
waiter, practicing attorney, and newspaper columnist. His weekly column in the Southern Pines, North Carolina Pilot was
named best column of the year in its division for 2005.
He lives, writes, and practices law in Carthage, North Carolina.
