Bradley is a retired US Army Colonel and pathologist with extensive experience in autopsies and forensic investigation.  A life-long fan of Sherlock Holmes, upon retirement he received  his Associates in Creative Writing from Full Sail University, to help him write the book–A Knife in the Fog–that he’d always wanted to read. Author Paul Austin Ardoin, Guest Speaker

November 3rd, 6:30 pm Eastern Time From 0 to $1,000 a Month in Self-publishing The Upstate, SC Sisters in Crime is thrilled to announce that Paul Austin Ardoin -- USA TODAY bestselling author of The Fenway Stevenson Mysteries and The Woodhead & Becker Mysteries -- will speak to us on November 3rd.

The Fenway Stevenson Mysteries debuted in 2018 with The Reluctant Coroner, and Paul just released book #8. He has also published fiction and essays in the anthologies Turning the Tide, The Paths We Tread, 12 Shots, Bottomfish, and Sweet Fancy Moses, and articles about computer security in Channel Futures, California Computer News, and European Communications. Paul holds a B.A. in creative writing from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He is currently moving from Sacramento to Milwaukee with his wife, four dogs, and a cat.

Homelessness and Life on the Streets - Deb Richardson-Moore, Guest Speaker

October 6th, 6:30 pm EDT We are quite honored to announce that our October speaker is the Rev. Deb Richardson-Moore. Rev. Deb Richardson-Moore recently retired from her 15-year post as pastor and director of the non-denominational Triune Mercy Center in Greenville. Triune is a church that brings homeless, working poor, middle-class and wealthy parishioners into community.

Her work among the homeless was recognized by Greenville Business Magazine as one of Greenville’s “50 Most Influential People” in 2013; by Upstate Business Journal - Who’s Who in Greenville Leadership in 2015; by Leadership Greenville - Distinguished Alumni Award in 2017, and by Furman University - honorary Doctor of Divinity degree in 2021. In addition to a memoir, The Weight of Mercy, Deb has written the Branigan Powers fiction series in which a homeless man helps a newspaper reporter solve murders. The Cantaloupe Thief, The Cover Story and Death of a Jester included many incidents pulled from Deb’s experiences with street dwellers. SPECIAL EVENT - Novel Writing: Tips, Tools, and Technology September 24, 1-3pm Please join us In-person as we get ready for National Novel Writing Month - NaNoWriMo - in November Hughes Main Library, Meeting Room C  25 Heritage Green Place, Greenville, SC 29601 Do you have a great idea for a novel, but you don’t know where to start? Do you need to conduct research for the book you’re writing? Do you struggle with basic features of your word processing program? Are you seeking a more advanced technology program to help write your novel? Are you planning to participate in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) this year? If you answered yes to any of these questions, this workshop is for you. Join us as Library staff and Sisters in Crime authors provide you with tried-and-true tips to help you organize your writing, improve your research skills and use writing technology to complete your writing projects. This two-hour workshop will provide a basic approach for how to get your novel started and conduct library research. Presenters will explain helpful features of some of the most basic computer programs available, such as Microsoft Word and Google Docs, as well as provide an overview of more sophisticated programs such as Scrivener and speech recognition programs.
