Southern author Maggie Toussaint writes cozy and paranormal mysteries, romantic suspense, and dystopian fiction, with more than twenty-five novels published. 

Maggie's October 17, 2023 release, IN THE WICK OF TIME, book two in A Magic Candle Shop Mysteries, is a cozy paranormal mystery series written under her pen name of Valona Jones. 

A multi-year finalist for Georgia Author of the Year, she’s won Silver Falchions, two Readers’ Choice awards, and the EPIC Award. Undercover narcotics enforcement is a dark, yet exciting career field. Keith Grounsell—with 25 years' experience in Law Enforcement & Security—will speak to us about his journey through deep undercover in 3 levels of law enforcement: as a City Police Officer, a County Vice and Narcotics Investigator, and a Federal Special Agent with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

Keith’s undercover experiences led to a four-volume series: A Narc's Tale. The extensive efforts taken to authenticate and corroborate these real-life stories (over 340 still images from covert body cameras and surveillance platforms and photographs, scanned documents and newspaper articles) are what separates his series of books from others in the genre. March 2nd, 2023 Insects at the Crime Scene: Introduction to Forensic Entomology We are super excited to have Dr. Jason Byrd as our March Speaker. Jason literally wrote the book on bugs! Jason is an Associate Professor and Associate Director of the William R. Maples Center for Forensic Medicine at the University of Florida’s College of Medicine. He is a Board-Certified Forensic Entomologist and Chairperson of the American Board of Forensic Entomology. He has published numerous scientific articles on the use and application of entomological evidence in legal investigations. Jason has combined his formal academic training in Entomology and Forensic Science to serve as a consultant and educator in both criminal and civil legal investigations throughout the United States and Internationally.

Dr. Byrd specializes in the education of law enforcement officials, medical examiners, coroners, attorneys, and other death investigators on the use and applicability of arthropods in legal investigations. His research efforts have focused on the development and behavior of insects that have forensic importance, and he has over 15 years' experience in the collection and analysis of entomological evidence.
