Growing up Criminal: The Roots of Criminal Behavior in Childhood Learning and Socialization

June 2nd, 6:30 pm Eastern Time Forensic Psychologist and Author, Richard (Rick) Helms The Upstate SC, SinC Chapter is excited to announce that our June speaker will be Rick Helms. Rick’s talk examines not only the biological foundations of psychopathy, but also how experience and social standing shapes criminal behaviors beginning in late childhood and adolescence. Rick’s career as a forensic psychologist spanned more than two deceased. At one time, he was the only court psychologist covering four counties in NC. He is a court-recognized expert in sex crimes and the psychology of sex offenders.

Rick is a prolific writer, and collects awards like some people collect comic books. He has won the SMFS Derringer Award twice, the Private Eye Writers of America Shamus Award, the ITW Thriller Award, and the Killer Nashville Silver Falchion Award. A Kind and Savage Place spans half a century from 1942 to 1989 and examines the dramatic racial and social turmoil of that period through the microcosmic lens of a flyspeck North Carolina farming community.
