Hoag grew up in Harmony, Minnesota. In 1988, Bantam published her first novel, a romance. After penning a number of romance novels, she switched her focus to mystery and thrillers.

Tami lives in the greater Los Angeles area where she is also known as a top competitive equestrian in the Olympic discipline of dressage.
